Tour Information +
The New Children’s Hospital (NCH) when completed will be Ireland’s largest ever healthcare project, amalgamating the three existing children’s hospitals at Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght. The brief set by the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board (NPHDB), was to create “one of the finest children’s hospitals in the world”. With the construction of the building approaching completion, the IAF Open House tour will take visitors around all the main zones of the building including the Podium consisting of Outpatients, Diagnostic & Treatment areas and the Public Concourse, the Interstitial floor accommodating plant and non-clinical space and the recognizable oval form of the Wards block sitting within the surrounding landscape of the Skygarden.
The tour will begin at the Southern entrance and progress along the concourse, a significant civic room that orientates and functions as a ‘heart space’ for the building. It will move through the Emergency Department and Imaging in the Eastern ‘Hotblock’ and across to the Outpatient Finger blocks on the west side of the building with their Internal courtyard gardens. The tour will then move up through the building to arrive under the Biome, a 3 storey open glazed Botanical form which brings light down into the concourse and looks out onto the Rainbow Garden contained within the Oval Ward Block. The tour will continue around the ward block taking in the single in-patient bedrooms and staff bases and culminating at level 06 with views out over the Dublin mountains, the city and the Phoenix Park.
This tour is strictly 18+
