The tour will begin in the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland’s historic Georgian townhouse on Merrion Square, exploring the history of the building, its architecture and the development of the College. Visitors will discover how the house was originally used and hear about life in a Georgian townhouse.

The tour will then move through the College’s historic anaesthesia display, featuring equipment and artefacts that illustrate the evolution of anaesthetic practice. Visitors will learn about key milestones in the history of anaesthesia in Ireland and the development of patient safety.

The tour will finish in the College’s Mews Simulation Centre, where visitors will see modern anaesthetic equipment and take part in interactive demonstrations exploring what happens during an anaesthetic, how patients are monitored and the role of the anaesthesiologist before, during and after surgery.

Yes. Paid public parking is available in nearby car parks, including Setanta Car Park, approximately a 10-minute walk from the College entrance. Limited on-street parking may also be available in the surrounding area.

The tour takes place in a historic Georgian townhouse with multiple staircases and uneven floor levels. The building does not have lift access to all areas of the tour route, and visitors will need to use stairs to access several parts of the building. As a result, the tour is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users or visitors with significant mobility impairments.
