This specialized architecture tour of The Custom House begins in the main reception area on the ground floor, before moving into rooms where our guide will talk about the architect James Gandon’s architecture style and his architectural achievements. It will then move into rooms showing off up close photos of all the sculpture adorning the building, and a detailed description by our guide of who sculpted what, and the features of all the individual sculpture.
The tour then goes upstairs for a look at the only room inside the Custom House not destroyed by a fire during Ireland’s War of Independence. The guide will fill participants in on all of the architectural features evident in this room and all of the sculpture adorning the walls.
Back downstairs then to learn about the two reconstructions and renovations that took place in the 1920s and the 1980s to bring the Custom House back to its former glory. The tour then ends at the reception.
This building is owned by the State through the Office of Public Works (OPW).
