The construction of nine new Age Friendly homes at St Ronan’s Crescent, Clondalkin, forms part of South Dublin County Council’s programme to deliver housing that supports older people to live independently within their own communities. The homes are specifically designed to support independent living for older persons and responds to the identified need for suitable Age Friendly accommodation across the County.

The development comprises five one-bedroom houses and four two-bedroom apartments arranged around a secure communal courtyard. The homes have been designed in accordance with Age Friendly and universal design principles, providing high-quality, energy-efficient accommodation within an established neighbourhood,  close to local shops, healthcare services, public transport, parks and other community amenities. All units achieve an A2 BER rating, helping to reduce energy costs while providing comfortable and sustainable homes for residents.

A key objective of the development is to support ageing in place by providing appropriately sized accommodation that enables older residents to remain within familiar surroundings and established social networks. The courtyard-based layout promotes both independence and social interaction, creating a safe and attractive environment while maintaining strong connections with the wider community. The development also includes landscaped communal areas, improved pedestrian links and new sustainable urban drainage and public realm enhancements.

This project contributes to delivering a broader range of housing options to meet the needs of an ageing population.
