Tour Information +
After decades closed to routine visitation, the Parish of St. George and St. Thomas is delighted to welcome the community back to this historic cemetery in Drumcondra.
Join us for a special Open House exploring the burial grounds and the life and legacy of renowned architect Francis Johnston (1760-1829). The talk, led by Paul Reardon, will take us on a journey through Johnston’s connection to St. George’s Church, his final resting place, and some of the other remarkable buildings he designed around Dublin.
Following the talk, we’ll wander through the burial grounds, uncovering stories of the people, architecture and history connected to this special place.
Hosted by St. George & St. Thomas Parish, this is a unique opportunity to step inside a cemetery that has been largely inaccessible for generations and experience a little-known piece of Drumcondra’s heritage.
Please come weather ready – coat, umbrella, boots, etc. You’re also very welcome to bring a camping chair if you’d like to sit during the talk.
This event was selected through the Open Call (Open to All) as part of this year’s Open House Dublin programme.
Meeting Point: Meet at the cemetery behind Vision Ireland’s head offices on Whitworth Road. St. George’s Cemetery, Whitworth Road, Drumcondra, Dublin, 9P7P+H7
Bookings managed by the Parish of St. George and St. Thomas
Accessibility Information
There is very limited accessibility for the cemetery but the talk will take place at the entrance; we have had wheelchair users take part before & all are welcome. And we might walk a bit as well depending on the group & weather.
Car Park: There is only street parking, no car park available but many forms of buses and other public transport. There is no vehicle access in the laneway up to the entrance of the cemetery.
