One Lime Street is the final piece of the Cardiff Lane redevelopment, comprising 216 dwellings on a site previously occupied by a number of obsolete commercial buildings. The design integrates residential and communal spaces, reinforcing the urban block morphology and introducing new facades to define the streets. Oriented along a North-South axis, the building maximises daylight to create a central green urban courtyard, articulated through the use of traditional materials to give the building a familiar residential character.
The site strategy seeks to reinforce the existing urban block morphology of the docklands area and ‘remake’ the streets which had previously lost definition. New brick facades, with strong vertical articulation, reinforce the streetscape. Pedestrian permeability is provided by a double height archway through the new courtyard garden connecting into the heart of the surrounding city block.
