Set on the former O’ Devany Gardens site, Montpelier is a contemporary housing development shaped by landscape, connectivity and thoughtful design. This guided walk will explore how new homes can integrate with existing neighbourhoods, highlighting public spaces, pedestrian routes and the site’s relationship to its surroundings. Participants will gain insight into the evolution of the scheme, planning approach, architectural character and delivery of much-needed housing.
The tour will begin at the community space of Ashford House with a brief overview of the area’s past and the evolution into a new residential community. The tour will then move through the development’s communal areas, passing a number of interface areas where the development connects with adjacent established neighbourhoods. The tour will consider how developments like Montpelier are contributing to a more sustainable and liveable city.
Meeting Point: Community Unit Ashford House, Ashford House, Montpelier Road, Dublin 7, D07 T68Y
The tour will muster at the Community building at the south-eastern corner of Ashford House. The Community unit is at Ground Floor level and is wheelchair accessible. The space will be lit naturally with some spotlights if required. The walking element of the tour will follow pathways throughout, and cross roads using pedestrian crossings where possible. Terrain has gentle elevations but is generally flat throughout. All routes are paved.
