Led by a staff member for Kilmainham Gaol Museum, this walking tour will visit the sites of former 18th and 19th century prisons in the north inner city. These include the area where ‘New’ Newgate Prison once stood, the Sheriff of Dublin’s debtors’ prison and the former home of Grangegorman Female Penitentiary, the first ever women’s prison in Great Britain or Ireland. Please note there is also a separate tour looking at former prisons south of the Liffey.
Meeting point: Entrance to the former Courthouse on Halston Street

This is a walking tour involving no steps or stairs so it should be accessible to wheelchairs users and people with restricted mobility.
