Le Fanu was the vision of the local young bikers. Through a People-First design process led by the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) with several engagement activities with the Ballyfermot community and other stakeholders followed by a two-stage design competition Le Fanu Skate/BMX and Play Park was built in a collaboration between Dublin City Council and Matheson Foundation.

The winners of the competition, Relational Urbanism, worked closely with the community employing a participatory design process to deliver a project that would suit their needs. Le Fanu Skate/BMX and Play Park was the winner of the Public Space category in the RIAI
Architecture Awards 2022.
