Tour Information +
Take a stroll with Ciarán Cuffe around the environs of The Irish Life Centre. Designed by Robinson Keefe and Devane in 1977, the complex was recently refurbished. Half a century ago the Irish Life Assurance Company built a mixed-use development in the city centre. To what extent was its construction a success, and how has it evolved in response to a changing city? Our tour will circumnavigate the complex and take in three other iconic buildings: the Abbey Theatre, Liberty Hall and Busáras. On our tour we will walk along Talbot Street, a multi-ethnic community in the heart of the city, and observe new and renovated housing.
In exploring the area, we will discuss what is cherished, and what has been airbrushed from History. From the legacy of Monto: Dublin’s red-light district to the 1974 Dublin bombings we will reflect on a city that continues to evolve with new demands and challenges.
Drop-in. Meet your guide outside the Salvation Army Hostel on Abbey Street. Look out for Open House Dublin volunteers.
