Bob Hannan, Senior Architect with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, leads a guided tour of the highly anticipated Dún Laoghaire Baths project.

The improvements entailed in the project aim to create new life and provide enhanced public facilities which will compliment and link the area adjoining People’s Park, the Metals and the DLR LexIcon Environs. The project has incorporated works to the Pavilion to accommodate studio space for artists, as well as a café area complete with outdoor terrace. The construction of a new sea wall and jetty has created a new viewing point with stunning vistas across Scotman’s Bay to Sandycove Harbour. The jetty is complimented by a long bench inspired by the sitting bench where swimmers relax overlooking Sandycove Harbour, with the new Casement Memorial Sculpture by Mark Richards dramatically sited on a plinth at the end. While a combination of factors have contributed to delays, from site closures due to the Covid pandemic to significant stabilisation works underpinning both the new jetty and the Pavilion, the completed Dún Laoghaire Baths project will enhance the seafront and wider public realm for decades to come.
