Cycle Tour: Gate lodges and Ashtown Castle in Phoenix Park and village of Chapelizod.

A cycle tour of the Phoenix Park taking in the exteriors of some of the period gate lodges and a visit to Ashtown Castle the recently restored 15th/17th century tower house close to the visitor centre, followed by a visit to the historic village of Chapelizod. The tour will look at the varied architectural forms of some of the gate lodges including the neoclassical example at Chapelizod gate. The tour of Ashtown Castle will include the interior and explain about the background of how this tower house was discovered during demolition works of a later building that surrounded it. The tour will then move to the village of Chapelizod and spend some time looking at the many architectural landmarks of this beautiful village. The tour will be led by retired Architects Bryan O’ Rourke who will give a personal overview of the many delights of the village and Willy Cumming who was involved in the restoration of Ashtown Castle.

Please plan to arrive at least ten minutes before your tour or event is due to begin. Please note this is a cycling tour and attendees have to bring their own bike. This tour is recommended only for people with experience cycling and is not suitable for under 18’s.
