Within the walls of Iveagh House, the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Affairs, you encounter not just a building of architectural splendour but also a location of many stories and some very significant history. Explore the nooks and crannies of the
splendid architecture and artwork of Iveagh House on this guided tour. Walk in the footsteps of Presidents, Prime Ministers, Monarchs and Bishops. Built by a Bishop, the house has been the residence not alone of a bishop and his spouse but of gentry, and senior judicial officers before being purchased by Benjamin Lee Guinness as a town house in the 1860s. In 1939 Rupert, second Earl of Iveagh handed over the property to the Irish State to be used as the then Department of External Affairs. Among the architects to have worked on the house are Richard Cassell, J.F. Fuller and William Young.

You will be welcomed in to the Entrance Hall and continue onwards to the The Secretary General’s Ante Room. The tour will also include the Ministers Ante Room, the Ministers Dining Room and the old Library. Vista’s to be encountered include the double Staircase and the spectacular Ballroom. But these are just a few of the sights and stories to be enjoyed on the tour. A house of almost 300 years has many sights to see and many stories to relate.
