As Ireland’s campus for the Creative Industries, the Institute of Art, Design + Technology (IADT) invites the public to explore our Digital Media Building which is prominently located at the entrance of our vibrant and growing campus. Accommodating up to 920 students across various disciplines including design, animation, visual effects, enterprise and technology this is a space built to inspire innovation, foster community and support the next generation of digital thinkers, makers and storytellers.
The building design is centred on creativity, flexibility, connection and possibility. It brings together a diverse range of specialist facilities in order to support creative, collaborative and future-focused learning. At the heart of the building is a vibrant restaurant, which serves as a social anchor for students and staff across the entire campus — promoting interaction, wellbeing, and a stronger sense of community. The feature social stairs facilitate the delivery of large-scale presentations, and is the focal point to a series of dynamic social spaces which extend up through the entire building and provide student-led, collaborative environments that encourage project-based and applied learning, and create a destination that students can enjoy.

The building will be showcased in a tour led by the designer Elliott Ballam who is an Architect Associate Director at Building Design Partnership (BDP). The tour will begin outside the main building entrance to view the dynamic feature façade and external landscaping. It will then move into the vibrant campus restaurant and social stairs, before working its way up through the social spaces of the building to showcase the series of Design Studio Labs, Animation Labs, CoCreate Spaces and Seminar Rooms. The tour will finish on the third floor in the Collaborative Study Area, which has panoramic views out over Dun Laoghaire, Dublin Bay and the Dublin Mountains.

The tour will start outside the main entrance of the Digital Media Building and the route will go around the perimeter of the building utilising the ramped access routes available. Once back at the main entrance, we will work our way up through the 4 levels of the building (GF, 1F, 2F & 3F) utilising the accommodation stairs provided. There is lift access provided to all levels for people with movement impairments. There is plenty of soft and hard seating throughout the building at all floors for those who may need to take a rest. The building will be a live environment with some IADT students and staff, so there will be a level of noise as part of the event.
