Tour Information +
As part of the Open House Dublin Festival, we are delighted to offer a special guided tour of the Alliance Française heritage building. This is a rare opportunity to explore one of Dublin’s most iconic architectural landmarks, including areas that are not normally open to the public.
Located at 1 Kildare Street, this protected building, adorned with its distinctive “whimsical beasts”, was designed by architects Deane & Woodward and built between 1859 and 1861. Originally home to the Kildare Street Club, a gentlemen’s club, it was once described as having one of the finest interiors in nineteenth-century Dublin. Since 1974, it has housed the Alliance Française, Dublin’s French cultural centre.
The event will begin with an introductory presentation, followed by a guided tour of the building in English led by architect Stephen Mulhall, Member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. The tour will conclude at the adjacent National Library of Ireland, where participants will be welcomed by a member of the Management team.
With only a limited number of places available, advance booking is essential.
Meeting Point: Reception of the building (ground floor), 1 Kildare St, Dublin 2, D02 TP94
