OHD Saturday Route Plan: D8
OHD route plans are suggested routes for you to take on Open House weekend to experience the city’s architecture. Although most events on these routes are drop-in and do not require booking we advise you to arrive early and to please be aware that some tours may fill up quickly.
This route is all about Dublin 8! First pay a visit to a fantastic exhibition by Metropolitan Workshop. People Powered Places is their latest practise-based research project looking at community participation in planning and housing design.
Location: Fumbally Court, Fumbally Lane, The Liberties, Dublin 8
Date & Time: Friday 14th + Saturday 15th, drop in anytime 11am – 5pm (close)
Drop in to the Old Reading Room at Marsh’s Library where scholars used to research, and the Second Gallery, where readers where locked in cages to prevent them from stealing the books! Guides will provide architectural details and a multitude of stories about the library’s past. You can then make your way through the private garden before setting off on your next stop.

Next we have Dublin’s only remaining medieval parish church building, St Audoen’s church. Visitors can see our exhibition about the history of the church, they can visit the part still in use by the church of Ireland, and witness where St Audoen’s housed the guild hall of St.Anne in medieval times.

The largest cathedral and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral has been at the heart of Dublin and Ireland’s history and culture for over 800 years. Join a guided tour of the ground floor at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral to finish off your tour of Dublin 8.
