Local historian and lifelong resident of Stoneybatter, Orla Fitzpatrick, will share her research into the architectural and social history of three buildings on Manor Street. The tour will explore the impact of the Dublin City Cattle Market upon the area’s residents in terms of occupation and recreation. The buildings include the dairy at no.9 which was home to the McGillycuddy family in the early decades of the 20th century. It will also consider one of the oldest extant cinema buildings in Dublin, the Manor Picture House. It will conclude with a look at the 1901 turreted redbrick public house designed by Luke G. O’Connor.

Orla is a research fellow at Trinity College’s Long Room Hub. She was Librarian at the National Museum of Ireland from 2003 to 2023. Her book ‘Lost Ireland’ (Pavilion 2021) traced Ireland’s social history through archival photographs.
