Open House Baby at 23 Kildare Street
Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Kildare Street, Dublin 2
Open House Bring-your-Baby! Maternity leave has not quenched the thirst of architectural exploration for Dr Hannah Malone (Asst. Prof. History of Modern Architecture, TCD) and Emma Gilleece (100 Buildings series, RTÉ Culture), so with their respective seven-month-old babies they have organised a special Open House Baby tour in the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. Show your little one(s) the first purpose-built civil service building for the State completed in 1942 with no fear of the dreaded eye-roll if your little darling kicks off. Learn about the relief sculpture work, depicting Irish mythology and Ireland’s emerging new industries, which was carried out by a female artist. This undoubtedly would have been highly unusual at the time. The longevity of the stately Art Deco interiors are a testament to the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
The tour will be led by the retired building facility managers who knew every nook and cranny of this landmark building.
Meeting Point: Corner of Dept of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, 23 Kildare Street and Schoolhouse Lane East
Pre-Book Only. This tour is only suitable for parents/guardians with accompanying babies/children.
Accessibility Information
Wheelchair lift and internal lifts for prams and changing facilities and a private room will be available for feeding.
Mammies, Daddies, grandparents, guardians and older children welcome. Please reserve a ticket for all adults and children over 5 years old.
