Henry J Lyons

Henry J Lyons and Hines would like to welcome you to experience the newly renovated Central Plaza. The scheme reimagines Sam Stephenson’s former Central Bank completed in 1978 which was acquired by Hines in 2016. Throughout its lifetime the plaza and buildings had degenerated; railings and security lighting introduced in the 90’s presented a hostile front to the public; general weathering and staining on the buildings façade called for attention.

These buildings, which have been a source of controversy since their inception, had been both loved and hated in equal measure. However, the project team appreciated the architectural, cultural and social significance of these buildings and sought to honour Stephenson’s legacy, preserving the existing buildings but also enhancing them for the next generation.

The tour will commence at the newly restored and relocated Crann an Oír on Central Plaza and progress through the building. The interventions both explicit and barely visible will be presented: discussing the particular challenges created by the unusual structure and also the new mixed-use brief. Views are central to this tour: those both created on the column free office floors and the views created underneath the new glazed rooftop.

The meeting point: Crann an Oír Central Plaza Dame Street.

This tour is pre-book only.
