A combination of experiential workshop and “walking tour” this will be unique opportunity to experience Spinal Injuries Ireland’s A Day in My Wheels session. You will get the chance to use a wheelchair to experience accessibility from the perspective of a wheelchair user. The workshop and tour will be led by staff from Spinal Injuries Ireland, including people with lived experience of being wheelchair users. The workshop will begin in the Creative Hub in an inside area in IMMA. There will be a brief 10-15 minute talk on spinal cord injuries, accessibility challenges to look out for, and an introduction to the tour itself.

Attendees will each be provided with a wheelchair and will be led on a route that will cover the courtyard, the surrounding pathways, and some indoor areas of the IMMA building. This will mainly be an outdoor tour. Along the route we will encounter obstacles either provided by the built environment, the natural environment, or intentional obstacles provided by the workshop co-ordinators. These will demonstrate accessibility challenges faced by wheelchair users every day. Your tour guides from Spinal Injuries Ireland will speak about universal design, blending old buildings with new technology and accessibility solutions, and how we are all a part of the inclusive future.

The tour will finish back at the Creative Hub 45 minutes later. You can then enjoy the rest of the IMMA building and exhibits.
