Make a superhero book in this workshop based on the classic tale of Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift. The workshop is inspired by the 1976 Marvel Classics Comics adaption of Gulliver’s Travels, currently on display in the Gulliver at 300 exhibition in the Long Room at the Old Library.

In the workshop you will:
• See the ‘Gulliver at 300’ exhibition, which celebrates the 300th anniversary of the publication of Gulliver’s Travels
• Listen to a short extract being read from Gulliver’s Travels
• Plan a story of your own with a superhero theme
• Make a simple book for your story using paper and glue

You will be given a template to plan your story and help you come up with your character’s superhero name, superpower and mission. To cater for a range of ages and abilities, there is the option to stick closely to the template or to use your imagination and add more words and pictures – whichever you prefer. All materials will be supplied.

The Book of Kells Experience recently achieved AsIAm Autism Friendly Accreditation and we are making inclusivity and accessibility a priority in this workshop. We will spend 5-10 minutes in the Long Room at the beginning of the workshop and the majority of the workshop will take place in the Henry Jones Room, which is a quiet room away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Book of Kells Experience. You will have the option to explore the Book of Kells Experience at your own pace before or after the workshop if you wish.
