Get hands-on and create your very own miniature eco-home using natural materials found right under our feet! Together, we’ll explore traditional, earth-friendly ways of building and discover why natural materials are so great for our planet’s future.

Discover how to mix clay, sand, and straw to craft miniature earthen dwellings. We’ll learn how these natural, non-toxic materials help keep homes cosy in the winter and cool in the summer!

We’ll talk about traditional Irish cottages and buildings, looking at how people built sturdy homes using local materials long ago. Children will be invited to share their observations on natural building materials they’ve spotted in their own neighborhoods and to imagine how we might build sustainably for tomorrow!

Best suited for ages 8-12.

Parents and guardians are invited to join in the fun and must stay with their children throughout the workshop.

Meet your facilitator:

Geraldine Cussens holds a Master’s in Green Building from The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. She loves leading interactive workshops on earth building, pizza ovens, model-making, and garden sculpture, showing families how to build creatively with natural and local materials!
