Join us at 11am outside Project Arts Centre for a walking and building tour of Temple Bar, led by Ruairi Ó Cuív, former Director of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios in the 1990’s.

The tour will explore the architectural transformation of Temple Bar in the early 1990s, focusing on the work and legacy of Group 91, the collective of architects who reimagined the area as a vibrant cultural quarter while working with its existing historic fabric. Drawing on his first-hand experience of Temple Bar during this period, Ruairi will share insights into the ambitions and architectural ideas that shaped the neighbourhood.

The walking tour will finish at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, where we will explore the building, originally a factory extending from Temple Bar to the Liffey Quays. Adapted and extended by McCullough Mulvin Architects in 1994, the building reflects Temple Bar’s transformation and its continuing role as a home for contemporary art and artists.

The tour will conclude with Temple Bar Gallery + Studio staff giving an introduction to Morgan Quaintance’s current exhibition, I’ll Always Remember…. Bringing together film, photography and archival material, the exhibition explores memory, the built environment, social housing and cultural history, drawing on the artist’s experiences between London and Chicago.

The meeting point for this tour is outside Project Arts Centre, Essex Street East. Headsets will be provided for all attending to ensure everyone can comfortably listen throughout the walking tour.

Please note that the walking tour will take place in Temple Bar which will involve moving over cobblestones streets and uneven surfaces. The Temple Bar Gallery + Studios building is accessible but please note there is a 7cm step into the gallery. All floors are accessible via lift and stairs and there is access to a semi accessible bathroom.  This is a standing event with seating available on request.
