Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Tour of Agriculture House
Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine, Kildare Street, Dublin
The building was designed by Stephenson Gibney and completed in 1974. It is constructed of concrete aggregate panels, built over six tiers of waffle-like precast wall units above a stilted colonnade. There were some modifications to the double height reception area in 1994 by Shay Cleary Architects to allow for the construction of the mezzanine area and additional conference rooms.
The tour will start in reception, go to the first floor to show the original green lino floor covering and strongrooms. Guests will then be brought to the seventh floor to the library. The library collection dates back as far as the beginning of the 19th Century (1800) and includes Irish Government material and reports, Statutes, Debates, Bills and Acts of the Houses of the Oireachtas, County Committees of Agriculture Reports and other related material. The tour will finish in the Departments restaurant also on the seventh floor with views of Government buildings and other Dublin landmarks.
This building is owned by the State through the Office of Public Works (OPW).
