Iveagh Gardens, Crumlin, a unique social housing development was built by the Iveagh Trust between 1926-36 for the ‘labouring poor’ of Dublin. It consists of 136 houses (and one shop) and was loosely modelled on the garden suburb initiative which was gaining momentum in Britain at that time and influencing town planning in Dublin. It is located off the Crumlin Road about halfway between Dolphin’s Barn and Crumlin Village which was at the time a semi-rural area.

This walking tour will take you around Iveagh Gardens, pointing out architectural and design features, demographics of original tenants, dispelling some myths along the way, and sharing stories about the people who have lived here over the last one hundred years. It seems fitting that in this centenary year, Iveagh Gardens has been designated an Architectural Conservation Area by DCC.
