Routes
OHD Saturday Route Plan: D4 + D2
OHD route plans are suggested routes for you to take on Open House weekend to experience the city’s architecture. Although most events on these routes are drop-in and do not require booking we advise you to arrive early and to please be aware that some tours may fill up quickly.
Start your OHD Saturday with a visit to the Belgian Embassy Residence, a Victorian home built in 1881 and aquired by the Belgian Government in 1950 and 1967.
Location: 44 Ailesbury Road, Dublin 4
Date & Time: Saturday 15th, drop in anytime 11am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm)
Head to Trinity College to take a tour of the Berkeley Library, located just beside Fellows Square and the Old Library. The Berkeley is regarded as Ireland’s finest modernist building, a brutalist gem that looks as good now as when it opened in 1967. This is a popular tour and queues will be managed by Open House volunteers.
Location: Trinity College, Dublin 2
Date & Time: Saturday 15th, drop in tours between 1.30pm and 3pm
An alternative to the Berkeley or indeed as an add on to your route is the Arts Building in Trinity College located right beside the Library. Incorporating the Faculties of Arts Humanities, Arts Letters, Economics and Social Studies, ABK Architects was commissioned in the 2000’s to add another floor above the roof, and carry out renovation works throughout the whole building.
Location: Trinity College, Dublin 2
Places on these tours do need to be pre-booked.
Date & Time: Saturday 15th, pre-book tours between 10am and 4pm
Finally to finish off your day pop into Meeting House Square, Temple Bar to watch some of our inspiring short films about architecture and the city. Our 17 Site Specific films will be screened on a loop for all to enjoy.
Location: Meeting House Square, Temple Bar
Date & Time: Friday 14th + Saturday 15th, drop in anytime 6.30pm – 9.30pm (wear warm clothes so you can stay a little longer!)
