The original Carnegie Library at Skerries bears the date 1910 on a carved stone plaque over the entrance. The building served the needs of the community for over a century. A significant redevelopment designed by Fingal Co Co Architects provides a large contemporary 3 story extension and provides a range of spaces to serve the needs of a modern library. The original Carnegie Library has been carefully conserved and upgraded within the overall redevelopment. The new light filled extension addresses Floraville Park to the north.
The project also provides a new public realm at Strand Street Skerries as a forecourt to St Patricks Church, the library and Floraville Park. Building works have recently been completed and the tour will allow access to the building and principal spaces before completion of all furnishing and equipping and prior to public opening of the facilities.
Meeting Point: Building is centrally located on Strand Street in Skerries.
