Lucan House is a Georgian country house located in Lucan, County Dublin, known as one of Ireland’s finest homes, built by Agmondisham Vesey in 1772 and designed by English architect Sir William Chambers. The house features fine plasterwork by Michael Stapleton, including a unique oval dining room, and an oval room possibly inspiring the White Houses design. The house was occupied by the Italian ambassador to Ireland from 1942 and was acquired by the Italian government in 1954.

South Dublin County Council (SDCC) acquired Lucan House in June 2024 and recently published the Lucan House and Demesne Masterplan (The Masterplan is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union under the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027), setting out an ambitious vision to transform thishistoric estate into a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable destination for the people of Lucan, South Dublin, and beyond.

SDCC are very pleased to be able to include Lucan House in our programme this year. The Architectural Conservation Section, SDCC are delighted to be working with Foley Architects and MESH Architects as part of SDCC OHD. Foley Architects have created an exhibition which will include a small exhibition of watercolours, maps and models prepared by Foley Architects during the preparation of the Lucan Demesne Masterplan MESH Architects are providing a tour of the amazing Demesne which includes Stable Buildings and Bath house and many more interesting and unique architectural pieces.
