Led by a staff member for Kilmainham Gaol Museum, this walking tour will visit the sites of former 18th and 19th century prisons in the north inner city. These include the area where ‘New’ Newgate Prison once stood, the Sheriff of Dublin’s debtors’ prison and the former home of Grangegorman Female Penitentiary, the first ever women’s prison in Great Britain or Ireland.

Please note there is also a separate tour looking at former prisons south of the Liffey.

Meet at the entrance to the Courthouse on Halston Street.
