The Liberties, one of the oldest and most authentic quarters of Dublin, is in the midst of great change. Historically home to the city’s industry, commerce and some of Europe’s poorest slums, the area has transformed in recent times into a vibrant urban hub with a distinct identity. This walking tour examines how the ongoing transformation of the Liberties, focusing on both housing and industrial projects.
Starting at St. Patrick’s Park, one of the great gems of the Liberties, we will look at the impressive Iveagh Trust development. We also visit the artisan housing at John Dillon Street, and finish with contemporary development at Newmarket.
Meeting Point: The tour will meet inside St. Patrick’s Park, next to the fountain in the middle of the park.
