Discover the remnants of an earlier harbour and learn how the present harbour was constructed on this tour, which will start with the earliest surviving structures. This tour will feature some of the lesser-known elements of this magnificent piece of infrastructure as we walk along the landward side of the harbour to the former ferry port, including the old coal harbour pier from c1760, the Traders’ Wharf, and Dún Laoghaire’s so-called ‘pier of tears’, the Carlisle Pier, where generations of Irish people caught their last glimpse of their families and loved ones before embarking on a new life overseas.

Meeting Point: King Laoghaire Monument near the railway down the hill from the Crofton Road railway bridge on road leading to the West Pier.
