Tour Information +
Join a walking tour of the Francis Street Environmental Improvement Scheme, completed in 2023 by Dublin City Council. This transformative project significantly enhanced the public realm along Francis Street through a range of interventions. Works included the reconstruction, upgrade, and realignment of the carriageway and footpaths, with substantial footpath widening to encourage increased on-street activity. On-street parking and loading were relocated off the carriageway via footpath build-outs, improving both safety and accessibility. The scheme also introduced traffic calming measures, such as carriageway narrowing and raised junction plateaus, to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Additional improvements included new tree planting, landscaping works, upgraded public lighting, and the installation of new street furniture, all contributing to a more attractive and welcoming streetscape.
