Join us for a fun and creative architecture workshop where children and their families can imagine and design their own dream street.

In this workshop you’ll have the opportunity to:

EXPLORE your everyday street. We’ll start by thinking about a street you know. What do you see, hear and notice there? Where do people walk, play, meet and spend time? What do you like about your street, and what would you change?

IMAGINE your dream street. What would make your street more fun, welcoming and exciting? Would you like more trees, a playground, a place to read, an outdoor ice cream cafe, an art space or somewhere to meet your friends? You can let your imagination decide!

DESIGN and make your ideas. Using drawing, collage and simple model-making, children and their families will create their own dream street. You can add buildings, parks, shops, play spaces, places to sit and anything else you would like to see in your neighbourhood.

SHARE your ideas. We’ll look at how streets are not just made up of buildings, but are places for people, play, movement, nature and everyday life. Together, we’ll imagine what our streets could look and feel like in the future.

No previous drawing or design experience is needed, just bring your imagination!

This workshop is suitable for 5-12 year olds.

Parents and guardians are invited to join in the fun and must stay with their children throughout the workshop.

Meet your facilitator:  

Led by architect and visual anthropologist Akshata Dalvi, My Dream Street encourages children to look at their surroundings in a new way and discover that they can have ideas about how the places they live in could be designed.
