DÍON opened in December 2025, bringing a new restaurant, bar and social space to the top two floors of the former Central Bank on Dame Street. Looking out across Dublin, the restaurant gives a new purpose to one of the city’s most distinctive modern buildings, while keeping its architectural character firmly in view. This guided tour of DÍON will explore the top two floors of the former Central Bank on Dame Street, looking at how a landmark of 1970s Dublin has been reimagined as a contemporary rooftop restaurant and social space.

Designed by architect Sam Stephenson, the original Central Bank was remarkable for its unusual suspended construction. Rather than being built conventionally from the ground up, its floors were hung from the structure above, a radical engineering approach in Ireland at the time.

That original structure remains visible throughout DÍON. It has been celebrated, not hidden. Structural elements sit openly within the restaurant, becoming part of the character of the space and creating a clear connection between the building’s past and its new life.

The tour will move through the restaurant, bars and rooftop spaces, looking at how the interiors respond to the original architecture, the materials and details introduced along the way, and the building’s relationship with the city around it.
