Tour Information +
Starting in Pearse Lyons Distillery, St James’s St, Dublin, this very special walking workshop explores the historic Liberties area through images, sounds and words. Guided by the workshop facilitators, participants will note their individual perception of buildings, the spaces in between and what lies beneath, using field work techniques such as on-the-spot sketching, audio recording, note-taking and site-writing. The workshop will finish back in Pearse Lyons Distillery where, using material gathered, participants will have an opportunity to create an individual response to their personal experience of the streets.
No special skills are required to participate in this workshop. The only things necessary are a notebook, pencil or pen. The workshop will be co-facilitated by Sheila de Courcy and John Dorman.
Sheila has worked on location as a researcher, writer and television and radio programme maker for over forty years. Arts, culture and social history are areas of particular interest and she recently completed a Masters in Travel and Nature Writing. Her work has been broadcast on radio and television and published in national newspapers, creative journals and travel anthologies.
John is the principal of Dorman Architects. For more than a decade John has been sketching the streets and back lanes of Dublin – to date he has gathered over 650 fragments of the city in 32 little black sketch books. ’Tracing the Lines’, a solo exhibition of his sketches of Dublin imagined through the poetry of the city’s most celebrated poets, was held in the RIAI in 2014.
