Tour Information +
In the roughly 1,500 years of settlement on the site, the Royal Hospital has seen its fair share of death, burial and ritual. This tour covers the three cemeteries on the grounds. Telling stories ranging from monks and vikings to graverobbers all the way up to victims of the sinking of the R.M.S. Leinster, these personal stories help us understand how communities interacted with the land of the Royal Hospital and the ceremonies they partook in, in dealing with loss, death and grief. Telling stories of both good and nefarious characters, helping us track the story of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham and its relationship with local communities.
The meeting spot is the entrance to Bully’s Acre in the grounds of the Royal Hospital. This is situated a short walk up the western avenue entrance, beside the fields of the Royal Hospital. Western entrance is off South Circular Road. The guides will be waiting outside for you from about 1:55pm.Please note that due to the ground being uneven and grassy, those with mobility issues may not find it fully accessible.
