Culture Club invites people to explore Dublin’s cultural places together
Culture Club is a series of talks, tours and activities that introduce and encourage people to connect with the cultural offer of the city. The programme is one of the cultural initiatives run by Dublin City Council Culture Company across the city with, and for, the people of Dublin.
Each month we offer a programme of talks, tours and activities hosted in cultural places across the city, followed by complementary tea, coffee, and most importantly, chats.
Culture Club is run in partnership with cultural institutions, organisations, venues and festivals across Dublin. Working closely with our partners, we develop new ways of engaging with cultural places and reduce or remove barriers for those attending. We provide a warm welcoming way to try new things and always have time for a cup of tea and a chat about the cultural things we have experienced together. Here’s what one previous participant had to say:
“This building and area are completely new to me, I had no idea it was so big and that all of this was inside. Sometimes with a place like this you see a closed door or a security person and think it’s not really for you or you can’t go in.”
As part of our Culture Club programme for Open House Dublin 2024, we are hosting an introductory tour of Kilmainham Mill.
Kilmainham Mill dates from 1800 and fell into dereliction after its closure in 2000. Dublin City Council purchased the Mill and has completed a programme of stabilisation works and essential repairs which included repairs to the roofs, removal of asbestos and propping of floor. Dublin City Council Culture Company is currently working on activating the Mill for meanwhile uses. During Open House Dublin 2024, the Culture Company will provide limited access to a small area of the Mill.
We aim to build awareness around what is happening in cultural venues in Dublin, so that the people who attend Culture Club know about the full range of opportunities available for them to try across the city. We look forward to welcoming more people to more cultural spaces with us in the future. You can find out more about Culture Club here.
Join us on Saturday 19th October for tours of Kilmainham Mill. Booking available for the tour here.
