Tour Information +
A combination of workshop and “walking tour” this will be unique opportunity to experience Spinal Injuries Ireland’s A Day in My Wheels session and use a wheelchair to experience accessibility of the built environment from the perspective of a wheelchair user.
The workshop will begin in an inside area in IMMA. There will be a brief 15-20 minute talk on spinal cord injuries and accessibility challenges that good design can solve or bad design can cause, and an introduction to the tour itself.
Attendees will each be provided with a wheelchair to use and will be led on a tour that covers the courtyard of IMMA and some indoor areas of the building. Along the route we will encounter obstacles either provided by the natural environment, the built environment, or provided by the tour co-ordinators, as well as pointing out clever solutions to accessibility. Attendees will get a first hand experience of accessibility challenges faced by wheelchair users every day.
The tour is led by Spinal Injuries Ireland staff made up of both able-bodied people and wheelchair users.
