This guided tour offers an insight into Fingal County Council’s recently completed social housing development at Crowscastle Green, Holywell, Swords. The scheme comprises 57 apartments across three buildings ranging from four to six storeys, delivering a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes within a compact and well-connected urban setting.

Visitors will explore the design approach behind the development, including how the project responds to its suburban context, creates a strong sense of community, and provides high-quality homes for residents. The tour will examine key themes such as:

  • The evolution of the site and the planning process.
  • The architectural design of the three apartment buildings.
  • Housing mix and the provision of family, accessible and adaptable homes.
  • Shared landscaped spaces and community-focused design.
  • Sustainable mobility measures, including extensive bicycle parking and pedestrian connections.
  • Sustainable drainage, landscaping and biodiversity features integrated throughout the scheme.
  • The role of local authorities in delivering contemporary social housing and supporting housing need in Fingal.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and opportunities involved in delivering a medium-density residential development on a constrained urban site and to discuss how good design can contribute to creating inclusive, sustainable neighbourhoods.
