The session will begin with a guided exploration of Photo Museum Ireland’s distinctive building in Meeting House Square. Designed by award-winning Irish architects Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey of O’Donnell + Tuomey, the building was inspired by the shape and design of a Box Brownie camera.
Looking at the museum from different angles and viewpoints, children and their accompanying adults will explore its shape, materials and architectural details, and consider how the building connects with the surrounding streetscape.

The group will then move indoors for a hands-on collage workshop. Using pre-printed photographs of the museum, Meeting House Square and nearby architectural details, participants will cut, layer and rearrange the images to create their own imagined cityscapes.

Each collage will be developed into a concertina zine that unfolds like a deconstructed street or skyline. The workshop will encourage children to look closely at architecture, experiment with scale and perspective, and creatively reimagine familiar buildings and public spaces.

The event will begin outdoors in Meeting House Square before moving inside Photo Museum Ireland for the workshop. The square has a generally smooth, level surface, although some surrounding Temple Bar streets are cobbled. Step-free access to Meeting House Square is available from Essex Street East and Sycamore Street; the Eustace Street entrance includes steps.

There are no steps at the museum entrance, and the building is wheelchair accessible, with lift access between floors. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available on the basement level and can be accessed by lift with assistance from a staff member.

The outdoor tour will involve some walking and standing, but participants may take breaks as needed. Folding chairs with armrests are available on request.
