11 Parnell Square is a landmark restoration project by McCullough Mulvin Architects, at the heart of Dublin’s Parnell Square Cultural Quarter. A collaboration between the Irish Heritage Trust, Irish Landmark Trust and Poetry Ireland, the house has been carefully restored and repurposed as a public space for discussion, music, poetry and events.

A magnificent five-bay, five-storey Georgian mansion dating from 1755, No. 11 is a Protected Structure and one of the earliest residences on Dublin’s first planned Georgian square. Formerly the headquarters of Dublin County Council, the building retains a rich architectural palimpsest of original 18th-century features and later additions.

McCullough Mulvin Architects’ conservation approach restores the building’s historic character while introducing sensitive contemporary interventions for accessibility, fire safety and new uses. The ground and first floors now provide cultural and event spaces, including the Seamus Heaney Library, while the upper floors accommodate offices.

The project brings together heritage and contemporary design, giving one of Dublin’s most distinctive historic buildings a renewed role in the cultural life of the city.

This tour is Pre-Book only. The meeting point for this tour is right outside the entrance to 11 Parnell Square. Open House Volunteers will be there to welcome you.
