Tour Information +
This section of the Royal Canal Greenway extends 2.1km from North Strand Road at Newcomen Bridge, along the banks of the Royal Canal to Phibsborough Road at Cross Guns Bridge. It is part of the broader Royal Canal Greenway route which on completion will deliver an off-road connection between The North Quays in Dublin to the River Shannon in Co Longford.
The key objective of the project is to provide inclusive, safe and attractive infrastructure for people walking, wheeling and cycling whilst reducing pollution and carbon emissions. Additionally, this route is a public amenity, promoting health and wellbeing for the communities which it serves.
The project provides public realm improvements, including a community plaza at Charleville Mall, tree planting, soft landscaping and new public lighting. The tow path has been widened and ramped access provided to make the route more accessible.
A new pedestrian and cycle bridge has been built across the Royal Canal just east of Lock Gate 3 and additional road crossings for pedestrians and cyclists are provided along the entire corridor, at Cross Guns Bridge, Binn’s Bridge, Russell Street Bridge and Clarke’s bridge.
This is a cycling tour only. All participants are responsible for bringing their own safety equipment.
Meeting Point: Outside Charleville Mall Library, Charleville Mall, Dublin 3
