Time passes, fashions change, and what was once brand new becomes historic. Thinking about places where many of us grew up, or raised families, we can start to consider the heritage values of mid to late 20th century housing. How does 1970s housing fit into the timeline of place-making and community building in dlr? What will people think of these homes and places in another 50 years?
Architect John McLoughlin will share his knowledge on the development of suburbs with historical maps and examples of ‘Building in the Garden’ illustrated with houses designed for garden sites in the Dún Laoghaire area. The dlr Heritage Officer will explore Public Housing from the 1970s, its legacy and future at the ‘The Evolution of Neighbourhoods’ discussion for people interested in community, architecture, heritage and how the neighbourhoods of Dublin have evolved.
Community Artist, Ed Carroll of Blue Drum will share some his experience working with the local community and cultural heritage. Hillview Estate are celebrating its growth, development and changes over 50 years.
Following the short visual presentations from the panel, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Jim Gildea will encourage audience discussion, debate and shared stories.
It promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking event.
