Tour Information +
The Education Team at Dublin Castle is delighted to present an architecturally themed tour of the Neo-Gothic Chapel Royal and State Apartments as part of the OPW programme for Open House Dublin 2025.
This tour takes visitors through the 19th-century Chapel Royal, designed by Francis Johnston, exploring its architectural features and historical significance as part of Dublin Castle, the seat of English and British rule from 1204 to 1922. Today, the Chapel Royal hosts private concerts and plays and features the 18th-century Neapolitan Crib each Christmas. The State Apartments at Dublin Castle are a suite of grand 18th-century rooms once used for royal and vice-regal ceremonies. Today, they host state functions for the Irish Government and are open to the public as a showcase of Georgian design and Irish history.
This building is owned by the State through the Office of Public Works (OPW).
Meeting point: The Entrance Hall of the State Apartments.
Pre-Book Only
The Chapel Royal featured as part of the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Site Specific Film Series produced and directed by Dyehouse Films in 2020/2021.
