Tour Information +
The tour will begin in our foyer, where we will discuss the history of the building, from the 19th century up through the 1992 renovation and up to today. Then we will bring guests into Cinema 1, where we will discuss the preserved architectural features from when it was the Quaker’s Men’s Meeting House with images from the IFI’s past on the screen. Then we will bring guests up to Cinema 2 where we will discuss the cinema’s past as the Quaker’s Women’s meeting house and the preserved features from that time.
Then we will bring guests into our Projection booths, which hold the only functioning, in-use 70mm projector in the country to discuss how we screen films and the history of film exhibition in Dublin. We will then bring them down to the Irish Film Archive Library to discuss film preservation and show some of the highlights from our collection. Both the projection booths and the Library are typically off limits to the public.
