Tour Information +
Ardgillan Demesne now a regional public park owned and managed by Fingal County Council for the benefit of the public, is located between Skerries and Balbriggan. The demesne is the magnificent coastal setting for Ardgillan Castle, a large country-styled house with castellated embellishments dating from the early eighteenth century.
The house consists of two storeys over a basement which extends out under the lawns on the southern side of the building.
When originally conceived, the ground and first floors were the living accommodations for the Taylor family while the west and east wings were servants’ quarters and estate offices. The basement comprised of the service floor, the kitchen, and stores.
Since being purchased by the Local Authority in 1982, the Castle has been restored with the ground floor rooms and kitchens open for guided tours and many spaces currently in use as studios for artists. Recently conservation works have been completed on the roof and facades.
