The Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone

This article is brought to you by Kilsaran.

The Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone is one of the largest urban developments in Europe. The planning scheme for the development was approved by An Bord Pleanála and adopted by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in 2014. The development consists of 75ha of residential development and 61ha of green infrastructure across the site.

Cherrywood is projected to have a population of 25,000 residents when fully complete and will feature 8,000 new homes, 6 new schools, 3 major recreational parks and a retail-led town centre. A wide and varied range of construction materials from Kilsaran feature throughout the development.

Over 56,000 tonnes of asphalt have been laid to develop roads, cycle ways, carparks, pathways and recreational areas by Kilsaran’s Roadsurfacing and Contracting division. A unique feature of this project is the requirement by the Local Authority to have the infrastructure in place prior to the development of any building work commencing.

A significant volume of structural concrete was also supplied to the retail and community services that form an essential part of this development. Bespoke buff granite, factory pre-sealed, paving flag products were used in conjunction with Kilsaran’s KPRO range of streetscape products to produce a durable low maintenance streetscape. Kilsaran’s permeable paving range along with Durarend Classic system also feature in the housing developments.

An exciting project for Kilsaran to be part of, we look forward to continuing to supply a full range of products to this unique project in the coming months and years.
