The Rediscovery Centre is the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland. A creative movement connecting people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living. The Rediscovery Centre is located in the repurposed Boiler House in Ballymun. The building has undergone a major green revamp and it is a state of the art facility with a focus on sustainability and reuse.
The incorporated experiential aspects of the building include:
Passive design: optimising orientation for solar gain
Heating and electricity from alternative, renewable and sustainable sources
Rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling
Green roofs and a green living wall
Onsite reed bed system for wastewater renewal
Building construction and landscaping that encourages biodiversity
Materials selection that prioritises their reuse, recycled, natural and sustainable properties
Urinal wastewater collection for use in plant nutrition on the building’s interior gantry
Tours at 10am, 12am, 2pm and 3pm
