The new schoolhouse is part of a campus masterplan and responds to a school-wide desire for spaces enhancing life between classes. The heart of the building is a social forum, linking the two floors and opening out to the playing fields. The new building raises at the end of an existing passageway, a “village street”, where we added new pockets and places, brick carpets, concrete benches, and meeting points at the thresholds of the teaching blocks.
The structure leans away from the boundary, protecting the privacy of neighbours. Plain and simple materials, brick walls and pitched roofs, respond to the local context.
