Tour of recently completed conservation works to the Great Hall, the finest state room in the historic Castle building, and the adjoining Library.
This project involved conservation works including reroofing, stone and metal window repair, joinery repair and interior redecoration. Internal services upgrades give much improved environmental conditions for the protection and and display of the collection of artworks. The conservation works allowed the exposure of the roof structure within the Hall and forms an important part of the decorative scheme.
The artworks lining the walls of the Hall are on loan from The National Gallery of Ireland have undergone cleaning and conservation in parallel with the building fabric upgrades.
Malahide Castle remains a very popular heritage tour and attracts many visitors annually. The Great Hall is now again the highlight of the overall tour of the Castle.
Accessibility Information
The Great Hall is located at First floor level and main access route is via stairs with tapered steps. Access by lift is available but is advisable to arrive early to use this service.
